Belonging at Welbeck

At Welbeck Academy, we want all children to feel a strong sense of belonging to positively promote their own self-esteem and wellbeing.

To belong, we all need to:

  • Feel seen
  • Feel heard
  • Feel included
  • Feel accepted
  • Feel understood
  • Feel respected
  • Feel valued
  • Feel safe
  • Feel able to be our whole “human” selves

All of our policies, procedures, school values and curriculum is designed to ensure that our children, and wider community, feel like they belong.  To work at Welbeck you have to be intentionally inclusive, day in day out no matter what ….. And by that we mean we are intentional in all of our actions, reactions and behaviours, language, attitude, body language, our facial expressions…. The list is endless…...

From the way we welcome every child each morning, to us knowing and catering for individual needs, yes - all 460 of them - to us being present and listening in a child's time of need - so that they feel heard, understood, known and supported

Wheel of belonging includes eight areas: needed, present, invited, welcomed, known, accepted, involved, supported, heard, befriended.

We ensure all of our children have a 'voice' and encourage them to share their ideas and suggestions through means such as our School Parliament, PSHE lessons and Assemblies. We also teach them to have a voice, and express themselves in a clear and concise way through our Oracy/ speaking and listening lessons.
